The Password… button in the Partition Options dialog enables you to provide a password to a given partition. A password cannot be given to the startup partition, or a partition that is set to automatically mount.
1. Click the Password… button.
2. Two dialogs will appear, each time asking you to type in the new password. The passwords must match in order for the new password to take effect. Each time, type in the password and click OK.
NOTE: If you have any password protected partitions you should make sure you have set the volume password using DriveManager. If you do not, anyone could set the volume password and use it to gain access to your protected partitions.
Deleting a password:
If you wish to delete a password, follow the steps above, but in step 2, just press the Return key for both dialogs.
It is important not to forget your partition passwords. If you do forget a partition password you can type in the drive password to access the partition, and set a new partition password immediately.
Some examples of bad passwords are names, dates, words, or things that are easy to type (e.g. "qwerty"). Any of the above with an odd character thrown in (e.g. "John%Smith") or odd case switching (e.g. "sEcreT") makes a good password. Nonsense words are even less likely to be guessed, though they are harder to remember.
Passwords should not be written down, and they should be changed periodically.
